THE ASSEMBLY HONOURS THE GALLANT FARMERS IN THE DISTRICT

The Assembly, like all other Assemblies country wide, celebrated its maiden farmers’ day to honour the gallant farmers of the land and to spur them on to do more in their endeavour.

The program began at about 8:00am prompt on the Kpone-Methodist School Park. The ceremony saw the display of a variety of food items produced by farmers within the district.

In his address, the District Chief Executive, Alhajie E.A. Tetteh, commended the farmers and encouraged them to produce more and to endeavour to work with the District Agricultural Extension Unit for any technical advice. He also commented on the price packages indicating that, this being the maiden edition, he believed there were a few inadequacies but those, notwithstanding, he assured, the following year’s celebration was going to be very gargantuan.

The overall best farmer went to Mr Michael Agbeko Afenya of Gbetsile. As part of his price package the Assembly presented to him a set of living room furniture, a 29” flat screen television set, a bicycle, a full piece cloth, a pair of Wellington boot, machetes, a knapsack sprayer, cartons of tin fish (StarKist) and a sword to signify his status as the best farmer. Various farmers won in other categories and took home varying packages of prices.
